Helene’s Internship: Helene’s SAGA Adventure

Why did you choose SAGA for your internship? What were your expectations?

I decided to intern at SAGA because I was excited about the chance to blend my typical work with a school environment. Plus, many of my family members are teachers, so it was interesting to try something akin to what they've been doing for years. My expectations were pretty simple: I wanted to learn new things, have meaningful experiences, and grow personally during my time there. And I'm happy to say that I achieved just that!

What were your responsibilities during your Internship at SAGA?

During my internship at SAGA, my primary responsibilities revolved around marketing and social media tasks. I also took on the role of event planning, coordinating activities like the Talent Show, Sportfest, and various team events. Additionally, I had the opportunity to explore new responsibilities like creating job descriptions and assisting in different classrooms. And let's not forget the loading zone duty!

Were there any events or moments during your time at SAGA that you will remember for a long time?

There were lots of fun and memorable moments during my year at SAGA. One of my all-time favorites has to be the collaborative content creation for the Social-Media Weihnachts Kalendar, and, of course, the unforgettable Battle of the Interns. Additionally, I will remember the various events like the Winter Bazaar, the Flohmarkt (flea market), and the Sportfest. But what really stands out are the four weeks of summer camp, where I had the chance to work closely with the kids continuously and create some truly fantastic memories. These moments will stay with me for a long time.

What endeavors do you have planned after leaving SAGA and Seattle?

After my time at SAGA and in Seattle, I have a few exciting plans. First, I'm going on a month-long travel journey before returning to Germany in mid-October. For the remainder of 2023, my primary focus will be on working on my master's degree, completing remaining courses, and enjoying valuable moments with my family in both Germany and Norway. Then, in January, I'm eager to move to Canada for a year and begin a new adventure. It's an open book, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me!

Is there something you will deeply miss after returning to Germany?

When I return to Germany, I’m going to miss the presence of children, their infectious laughter, and the unique love they share. Even though I primarily worked in an office, the atmosphere at SAGA was markedly different from a typical workplace. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to have experienced it.

Beyond SAGA, I'll certainly miss the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, including the mountains and beaches. I really enjoyed those evenings by the beach, watching the sunsets. Most of all, I'll miss the friends I've made during my time here. Many of them have already returned to Germany, so I'm excited for our reunions. Since I'll likely be moving to Vancouver, it's comforting to know that my friends here will still be nearby when I return next year.

What will be the first thing you would want to eat after returning home?

Döner! 😀
